The trailers for the recent Daisy Ridley-starring zombie film We Bury the Dead really played up the chaos of it all, suggesting that this was a gory horror-action film.

And so many were left perplexed when they sat down to watch it and discovered that, in fact, it's really more of an introspective character drama about grief that just so happens to unfold amid the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse.

Yes, there are hordes of the undead and there's some occasional blood-letting, but We Bury the Dead is far more of a quiet, character-driven piece of work hinged around Ridley's exceptional performance in the central role.

And so, it's not hugely surprising that there's a massive disparity between the high critical praise and more lukewarm response from general audiences. 

No matter how compelling the film might be, and how great Ridley's performance is, you can't blame folk for being miffed that they didn't get the film they were sold by the marketing.
