The Perfection is one of those brilliantly protean movies that just keeps changing up its form, ensuring we as viewers are never able to get comfortable and know what to expect.

On the surface it might seem like a pure psychological horror film about two rival cellists (Allison Williams and Logan Browning), but filmmaker Richard Shepard constantly re-frames the context of the story through regular insertion of twisted flashbacks.

Just when you think you have a bead on what the story is, we find out there's another layer to it all, forcing the audience to entirely reconsider certain character motivations.

It's a film that could be described as a dramatic thriller, a revenge film, and a body horror movie, and somehow it manages to deliver a satisfying rendition of each while keeping so many plates spinning at once.

While some of the film's wilder twists divided audiences, it's tough not to respect the audacity of it all.
