20 Horror Movies That Weren't What Anyone Expected
17. Fresh
The trailers sold Fresh as a horror movie about the world of dating, where protagonist Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones) has a meet-cute with the impossibly hot and charming Steve (Sebastian Stan). It's just too good to be true, right?
The marketing made it clear that Steve wasn't even remotely what he appeared to be, and had some... interesting designs on Noa, though stopped short of revealing precisely what his intentions were.
So it's quite the surprise when we learn that Steve isn't merely the serial killer you might be expecting - he's actually a cannibal who kidnaps women, carves their meat away while they're still alive, and then sells it on to wealthy cannibals.
There's a gear-shift moment when we realise this isn't just a conventional serial killer film but a much sicker, more twisted and inventive genre offering, and it ensures the audience is kept on their toes for the entire rest of the runtime.
