20 Horror Movies That Weren't What Anyone Expected
16. From Dusk Till Dawn
Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn is an especially egregious - but awesome - instance of this, considering that most unsuspecting viewers had no idea it was even a horror movie at all when they went to see it.
The marketing largely sold it as a gritty neo-noir crime thriller, and even though some posters teased a supernatural presence, they steered clear of revealing that it shifts into full-on vampire movie mode at the mid-way point.
Up until then, From Dusk Till Dawn seems somewhat tethered to our own reality, but after George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino's outlaws rock up at an all-night strip club, it's not too long before the blood-suckers show themselves and all hell near-literally breaks loose.
It may not be what most people expected, but you'll struggle to find many who felt short-changed by the absolute smorgasbord of gory, hilariously over-the-top carnage that Rodriguez served up.
If From Dusk Till Dawn offered up merely what the trailers promised, it likely wouldn't be nearly as well-remembered as it is 30 years later.
