5. Anaconda (2025)

There was a lot working against the recent meta-reboot of Anaconda. 

For one, it was being released at Christmas, which is a risky time of year for the horror genre, all while facing stiff competition from Avatar: Fire and Ash, The Housemaid, Song Sung Blue, and Marty Supreme.

In addition to this, the marketing received a fairly lukewarm response online, many were miffed by the PG-13 rating, and it went on to receive mixed reviews from critics.

None of this indicated a recipe for success, then, but aided by an impressively lean $45 million budget, Anaconda was a sturdy success, grossing $135.4 million - just over three-times its budget, ensuring it made a fair profit theatrically.

More to the point, this is exactly the sort of undemanding genre film that does gangbusters business on streaming, so it's most likely continued to clean up since leaving cinemas.

What an outcome for a film that seemed dead on arrival when the first trailer dropped.
