6. M3GAN 2.0

When a sequel to 2023's sci-fi slasher hit M3GAN was swiftly announced, it was a reasonable assumption that the follow-up would be basically the same movie all over again, as is genre tradition.

Yet for all M3GAN 2.0's flaws, it's certainly anything but a listless rehash of the original, with director Gerard Johnstone instead crafting an absolutely bonkers sequel which shifts genres into all-out sci-fi action territory.

M3GAN 2.0 is an unapologetic farce that makes the original seem positively grounded by comparison, the title character effectively being reinvented as an anti-hero, Terminator 2-style, as she goes to war with an altogether more dangerous android, AMELIA (Ivanna Sakhno).

Though this surprising shift is likely what caused the sequel to bomb at the box office - something even producer Jason Blum admitted - M3GAN 2.0 does at least get credit for not doing the most obvious, cynical thing and just repeating the structure of the first film wholesale.
