The Avengers 2: 5 Ways To Make It Suck Less

By Luke Stevenson /

2. Humanise It

Why This Sucked: Unconnected and distant; no this is not me describing the new found relationship status between me and my Avengers loving other half, but the characters to their situation. Scarlett Johansson was the only one with borderline human emotions throughout as she tried desperately to be something more than an attractive woman in leather. Little was said about Thor having to try and kill his brother; even less said about Captain America handling a world he doesn€™t belong in; Bruce Banner€™s issues were dealt with in one scene and Robert Downey Jr didn€™t seem to care that his girlfriend ran off when trouble started and came back when there was glory to be stolen. Their detachment from people seemed to deaden the threat as you simply didn€™t think these people had nothing to lose from dying; thus when the tag on emotional thing happened at the end and there was a risk that Iron Man may have died, no-one gave a crap. How To Make It Better: What happened to all those love stories in the endless stream of origin films? Why aren€™t they allowed now? What happened to inter group relationships? In fighting was downgraded from intense conversations to just actual fighting which grated as the film went on; attention paid to how they are with each other and people they care about could help amplify our feelings for the characters and actually want them to survive.
