The Biggest Mistake Each DCEU Film Has Made

2. Shazam: The Lame Villain

Shazam! is a very fun superhero movie and the second-best DCEU film. It isn't necessarily a great film but it's certainly a very good one that has a lovely, heart-warming tone and an infectious glee that's hard to resist. Considering how dark many of this franchise's other films are, it's a remarkable breath of fresh air.

The cast are great, the script is sharp, the emotional drama works and the jokes land beautifully, but Shazam has its issues, just like any other film. Aside from its overlong runtime, the biggest issue is the weak villain; yes, the superhero movie villain problem rears its ugly head once again.

Dr Thaddeus Sivana is yet another totally bland and forgettable villain who never leaves any sort of impact. The character was also a criminal waste of the brilliant Mark Strong. Normally, Strong is a goldmine when it comes to playing villains but even he's far worse than normal here, indicating that (understandably) he couldn't find a way to make this bad guy very interesting.
