Perhaps the highlight of the entire movie is a sublime musical score from the ever-brilliant Alexandre Desplat.

Rather than opt for a predictable fusion of orchestra and electronica as is the case with so many sci-fi films these days, Desplat sticks to a string-driven swell that's by turns ominous and affecting.
His score plays a huge role in elevating the on-screen drama and especially the film's more questionable emotional beats later on, with some pundits already suggesting Desplat may net his 12th Oscar nomination as a result.

It'd certainly be thoroughly deserved - a classic adventure movie score with just enough of a contemporary, bombastic spin.
