5. The Weird J.K. Simmons Subplot

J.K. Simmons has a small role in the movie as Arve Støp, a powerful man overseeing Norway's bid to host the Winter Sports World Cup, in a woeful subplot that largely feels disconnected from the central serial killer narrative and, therefore, mostly pointless.

It doesn't help that Simmons' attempt at a Scandic-esque accent falls rather flat, doing what so many actors do when attempting to speak in a different accent: he over-affects the new accent to the extent that it sounds blatantly false.

If a film gets a bad performance out of someone as brilliant as Simmons, you know it's no good. That he's left stranded in a forgettable subplot that could easily be trimmed entirely only makes matters worse.
