The Worst Part Of The 10 Best MCU Movies
2. Time Travel Problems - Avengers: Endgame
When half of the universe’s population was snapped out of existence by Thanos at the conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War, there was a whole year of questions, theories, and fans generally being in the dark. No one expected the dusted characters to remain dead, but it was how they would come back that was the biggest question.
One of the prevailing theories, thanks to several leaked set shots of the Battle of New York, was time travel. This was ultimately the way Marvel Studios decided to go, but even the great MCU isn’t safe from the pitfalls of a time travel story.
The rules a movie sets in place for this type of narrative have to be absolutely watertight, but Endgame had a lot of contradictions. Hulk tried to explain the rules but only ended up confusing things, and even said that it was impossible to change the past. So what were we all doing here then?
The worst part of this is that Steve Rogers managed to go back in time and live his life with Peggy on what had seemingly been confirmed as a different timeline, as the past couldn’t be changed in the same timeline, yet still returned as an old man to pass his shield on to Sam Wilson.
This made absolutely no sense, and there were a lot of fans who hated that Captain America’s story finished with him essentially hanging up the shield and watching the world burn from the sidelines doing nothing.
