TRON finds a lead player...

Disney have hired up and coming 24 year old Minnesota born actor Garrett Hedlund to lead TRON, the sequel to the 1982 cult classic. And no that's not a typo, Disney are giving the sequel the exact same title they gave the original! Hedlund's five year experience in the industry includes roles in TROY, DEATH SENTENCE, FOUR BROTHERS, GEORGIA RULE, ERAGON and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. He looks like this... Hedlund will lead the $150 million Disney gamble (which apart from Bridges, won't have a star attraction), which sees Jeff Bridges reprise his Kevin Flynn role from the original. Bruce Boxleitner also returns from the original with young TURISTAS actresses' Beau Garrett and Olivia Wilde cast sometime ago.

Hedlund will play the lead, a man who finds himself pulled into the world of a computer and retracing the steps of a character from the original movie named Kevin Flynn. Jeff Bridges is reprising the role of Flynn, who was a computer programmer but ended up as the CEO of a software corporation.
The Hollywood Reporter say their was early interest in Chris Pine (the new Kirk) and Ryan Gosling (from THE NOTEBOOK/FRACTURE) but both proved to be unattainable. The trade also say that poor CLOVERFIELD actor Michael Stahl-David screen-tested but lost out on the part, the second big blockbuster he has missed out on in recent years as he screen-tested for Kirk for J.J. Abrams only to lose that role to Pine. Commercials director Joseph Kosinski makes his feature film debut from a script co-written by Steven Lisberger, who came up with the story for the original film. Production begins in March aiming for a Summer 2011 release.
