14. The Phone Booth - The Blob (1988)

Chuck Russell's The Blob is one of the greatest horror remakes of all time, and though it's received plenty of praise over the years for its horrifyingly gooey practical effects, there is one all-timer kill that deserves way more attention.

In the midst of the Blob's rampage, diner owner Fran Hewitt (Candy Clark) frantically runs into a phone booth and tries to call the police. 

But a safe space this ain't, as the blob soon enough shows up and envelops the entire booth, before tauntingly showing Fran the devoured corpse of Sheriff Herb (Jeffrey DeMunn) - the very person she was trying to reach on the phone.

Fran is then left helpless to do anything but wait until the blob caves in the telephone booth and instantly devours her. 

Even accepting that hiding inside a phone booth is pretty ill-advised in a situation like this, the sheer claustrophobic terror of it all combined with the stomach-churningly brilliant practical effects make it a truly masterful death scene.
