20 Underrated Recent Movies You Might Have Missed

3. Sharp Corner

Another movie that vanished from sight in record time despite being really damn good, Sharp Corner stars Ben Foster as Josh McCall, a man who becomes obsessed with saving people who have car accidents on the sharp corner near his home.

It's an incredibly bizarre premise for a film, which may well explain how little business it did, but it's also one perfectly attuned to the acting sensibilities of the ever-brilliant Ben Foster.

Foster has built a career playing oddball characters, and Josh is one of the more uniquely afflicted, his fascinating desire for control reflecting how little of it he has in his own personal life.

Foster is matched by an already-strong Cobie Smulders as Josh's wife Rachel, while writer-director Jason Buxton's script is punctuated with just enough dark comedy to balance out the tone.

Sharp Corner isn't a frothy, feel-good time at the movies, but it is one of the most underappreciated acting showcases of the past year.
