4. Rebecca Hall - A Head Full of Ghosts

A Head Full of Ghosts is the new film from Goodnight Mommy and The Lodge directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, and is based on Paul G. Tremblay's 2015 novel about a Massachusetts family whose daughter shows signs of mental illness, leading her parents to believe that she's demonically possessed.

And it gets a whole lot weirder from there, as the family appears on a reality TV show where the entire predicament captures the public's imagination.

David Harbour and Rebecca Hall will star as the parents, with Hall playing Sarah, the most nuanced and challenging character from the source material, who is forced to contend with her own guilt about revealing her daughter's condition to the wider world.

Hall has delivered a number of outstanding performances in horror films in recent years - especially The Night House and Resurrection - so there's no reason to expect any different here, especially with two hugely uncompromising filmmakers at the fore and a co-star as fearless as Harbour.
