3. The TERRIBLE CGI - Kung Fu Soccer

Kung Fu Soccer is the long-awaited standalone sequel to Stephen Chow's brilliant cult classic 2001 sports comedy Shaolin Soccer, which ingeniously collided the martial arts and sports movies together to produce something totally, cartoonishly unique.

Chow finally began shooting the follow-up last year and recently dropped the first trailer, which received a wildly mixed response from fans of the original due to the egregious amount of cheap, ugly CGI.

The original Shaolin Soccer of course features a ton of CGI to realise its over-the-top football action, but it absolutely felt consistent with the film's overall style and tone.

But here, the VFX work looks genuinely rough - even something as basic as creating a believable digital football stadium, to say nothing of the more outlandish, action-packed effects-driven moments.

Some have even suggested that the film's CGI reeks of "AI slop," and while that seems like a distinct possibility, it hasn't been confirmed yet. 

Either way, considering how important the VFX are for a Shaolin Soccer movie, it's brutally disappointing that they look so bad.

And early reviews from the film's Chinese release won't make you any more hopeful...
