Here's another film we didn't actually know about until long after it had been cancelled behind closed doors.

When Pixar's new animated film Hoppers was released back in March, The Wall Street Journal published an article detailing a scrapped feature film which had been in development for years before being canned internally in 2023.

The film, Be Fri, revolved around two teenage girls who find themselves drifting apart after learning that their favourite TV show is real, sending them on a universe-hopping quest to save humanity.

Be Fri was to be directed by Kristen Lester, who helmed the 2019 Pixar short film Purl, and at the time of its cancellation had been in active development for three years with 50 people working on it.

The sudden cancellation reportedly shocked Pixar employees, with one anonymous source claiming the film was readying up for the animation stage when the plug was pulled, allegedly due to the film's overt "girl power" themes.

With its musical elements, the source also likened its potential to Netflix's recent phenomenon K-Pop Demon Hunters, but with Be Fri's cancellation, we'll never get to know what it could've become.
