20 Upcoming Movies That Just Got Cancelled
3. The Magic Faraway Tree 2
Considering that the recent fantasy adventure film The Magic Faraway Tree is based on one of four installments in Enid Blyton's beloved novel franchise, the adaptation's success would've naturally led to at least a few sequels, with director Ben Gregor and writer Simon Farnaby both expressing their enthusiasm to return.
And while the film had solid openings in the UK, Australia and Poland, it absolutely tanked in North America, leaving its global box office total at a paltry $35 million.
Reported budgets for the film have ranged from $30 million to $80 million, and even if we generously accept the lowest figure, it'd need to cross $60 million to be considered a financial success.
Given that it's fallen far, far short of this mark, it seems highly unlikely that a sequel will get the greenlight. Don't be too shocked if we get a streaming series reboot in a decade, though.
