17. Whac-A-Mole

There's perhaps no greater indication of Hollywood's creative bankruptcy than when they start mining classic board games for IP which can be adapted into blockbuster movies.

Last year, Mattel and TriStar Pictures confirmed that a film based on the Whac-A-Mole game is in the works, which Mattel Films described as a "wild, action-packed ride for the big screen," while TriStar called it a "fresh, unexpected take on this absolute classic."

Following the success of Barbie in 2023, Mattel greenlit a whole host of films based on their most cherished toys, seemingly hopeful that a few of them might also transpire into commercial juggernauts.

But Whac-A-Mole, really? Does a game about hitting moles on the head with a mallet have any cinematic juice whatsoever? 

It's the sort of ridiculous announcement you'd expect to see in a Hollywood satire like The Studio, but alas, it's apparently happening for real... somehow.
