16. Alien: Covenant Sequel
Despite the critical and commercial success of 2024's Alien: Romulus, the expected sequel's development has been slowed by Ridley Scott's recent announcement that he's working on a direct sequel to 2017's Alien: Covenant.
Scott is currently rewriting the film's script and intends for it to conclude the Alien prequel trilogy which began with his 2012 film Prometheus, and will see Michael Fassbender once again reprise his role as malevolent android David.
Yet Prometheus and especially Alien: Covenant proved wildly divisive with fans despite widespread praise for Fassbender's performance, and so there are many who simply have no interest in seeing this narrative arc continued.
With almost a full decade since Covenant's release, it seems wholly misguided to return to this polarising well rather than go full steam ahead with an Alien: Romulus follow-up.
Though a Romulus sequel hasn't been officially cancelled, Scott's project does put its future in serious doubt, leaving many fans frustrated that Scott won't walk away from the table and let other
voices play in his sci-fi horror sandbox.
