What Does The Ending Of 10 Cloverfield Lane Really Mean?

Explaining this monster of a movie.

By Alex Leadbeater /

If you've seen 10 Cloverfield Lane, it's probably for one reason and one reason only; that title. The debut feature from the acclaimed director of Portal: Still Alive starring the perpetually amazing John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead with a script by the mastermind of Whiplash is certainly an enticing sell, and was all but guaranteed to produce an interesting film, but the excitement for those creative prospects is nothing compared to what the addition of producer J.J. Abrams and the subsequent Cloverfield titling offered. As a result, watching 10 Cloverfield Lane feels like doublethink. You've gone into this movie to crack what's in Abrams' mystery box, but the quality of the base movie is so strong you find yourself pulled into an engrossing, three-character story at the same time. The result is one of the most exciting cinema-going experiences in years, and one that has naturally already caused quite a bit of debate online, as much about what it all means as to how it links into the wider "universe". I've already broken down why the build-up to the movie was a work of genius in its own right, so now it's time to take a look at the movie itself, answering those niggling questions, clarifying what actually happened, analysing what the meaning of all the themes are and, biggest of all, what the title really means. It should go without saying, MAJOR SPOILERS from the start.
