17. Katie Stares At Micah - Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity cemented itself as one of the creepiest films of the last 20 years with its deeply eerie finale in which a now-demonically possessed Katie (Katie Featherston) kills her boyfriend Micah (Micah Sloat).

But the moment that best sticks to the ribs, as they say, isn't the actual death of Micah but the skin-crawlingly creepy moment just before, where the video footage shows a possessed Katie getting out of bed and watching Micah sleep for several hours.

The time lapse of Katie motionlessly staring at Micah, only to then kill him, is frankly more unsettling than any of the more outwardly supernatural fare in the film.

And like the movie as a whole, it's a testament to how the most basic, elemental aspects of human experience can be so much more disturbing than crazy, big-budget effects-driven set-pieces.

This was basically where the entire Paranormal Activity franchise peaked, and it never got quite this unnerving ever again.
