12. Guy Pearce - Prometheus

When Ridley Scott's Prometheus came out, many were puzzled by Scott's decision to cast Guy Pearce in the role of Peter Weyland - the extremely old CEO of Weyland Corp, requiring Pearce to undergo five hours of makeup daily.

After all, why not just find one of the many brilliant elderly actors out there and give them a job instead?

Ironically, this is actually what Scott intended to do, with Max von Sydow originally being eyed for the part, but here's where things get really interesting. 

The script actually featured a sequence involving a younger Weyland, and so Scott decided to instead cast a younger actor who could portray both the younger and older Weyland - enter Guy Pearce.

This scene was actually shot for Prometheus but never featured in the final film, leaving everyone confused why Pearce was layered with some frankly unconvincing old man makeup for a brief cameo.

It was slightly justified when Pearce briefly reappeared as a younger Weyland in sequel Alien: Covenant, but even so, would anyone have sniffed at older Weyland being played by an actual old man who somewhat resembles Pearce?
