3. Tyler Perry - Alex Cross

It was just a matter of time before Hollywood took another stab at adapting James Patterson's Alex Cross novels, following the Morgan Freeman-starring thrillers Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider.

And in 2012 the reboot Alex Cross was released, with the titular detective being played by none other than... Tyler Perry.

Perry, best known for his critically panned franchise of Madea comedies, seemed like an inherently strange choice to play the character, and he absolutely failed to acquit himself in the film itself.

For one, Perry lacks the on-screen gravitas and authority that Freeman brought to the part, and while portraying a younger Cross who takes on a more physical role, he isn't particularly persuasive at all.

There's no denying that the script and direction were an utter mess, but even so, Perry was an absolutely bizarre casting choice that, per the film's critical and commercial failure, didn't pay off.

On the plus side, Hollywood got it right the next time when they cast Aldis Hodge to play Cross in the Amazon TV series of the same name.
