Now to be completely fair, most people hadn't even heard of Desert Warrior until all the reports emerged about its disastrous opening weekend at the box office - one of the worst domestic openings ever, in fact.

But for those who were aware of this Saudi-backed, Anthony Mackie-starring historical action film, it was clear as day that it was being sent out to die.

For one, the film spent more than four years in post-production purgatory, and in a particularly damning sign it still hadn't secured a buyer more than two years after principal photography wrapped.

On top of that, director Rupert Wyatt briefly quit the film during the editing phase amid the ever-vague "creative differences," though did later return to complete it.

As such, few were shocked when Desert Warrior was panned for being a basically generic, forgettable $150 million tentpole - the biggest and most expensive ever produced in Saudi Arabia, even.
