13. Scream 7
Though the Scream franchise has been impressively consistent during its tenure, it was clear that the wheels well and truly came off during early development of Scream 7 and it never recovered.
Originally intended to be a direct follow-up to Scream VI (obviously), those plans were scuppered when lead Melissa Barrera was fired in late 2023 for making pro-Palestine social media posts, after which screen sibling Jenna Ortega also soon departed.
And so, production had to sharply pivot to a new plan, with original star Neve Campbell - who sat out the sixth film due to a pay dispute - being coaxed back with a massive $7 million payday.
Combined with the decision to bring back legacy stars such as Matthew Lillard, David Arquette, and Scott Foley - whose characters all previously perished - this was a sequel that screamed desperation.
And on top of this, franchise creator Kevin Williamson being in the director's chair for the first time in the series - despite having one single panned previous film to his name - added further cause for concern.
With all this in mind, it surprised few that Scream 7 was a series-worst effort - a creatively bankrupt sequel with nothing interesting to say while touting the weakest killer reveal to date.
