With X-Men: Apocalypse starting to steadily encroach on the present day with its 80s setting, the internal timeline of the film means that more and more mutants are ripe for returning. Scott Summers, the younger brother of Alex, will be a young lad at this point in time, meaning it's more than feasible for the stalwart X-Man to return. With the younger age in mind, there's just simply no way that James Marsden will be able to return to playing the laser-eyed mutant. Being the younger brother of Havok, whoever fills the shoes of Cyclops is going to need to look younger than the character's on-screen brother, if he even returns at all. Many fans of the series were displeased with how suddenly Cyclops was killed in the third X-Men film, so this is an opportunity to apologise for that.
