If you're wondering how Aloy stands out from the typical game protagonist, consider her backstory and motivation. She's a hardcore metalhead (pun intended), living in a matriarchal society who sets out on a quest to discover the identity of her mother.

That's not something you see too often.

She's not only a kick-ass fighter but a curious, benevolent person who is determined to improve the world around her by mastering the secrets she uncovers. That stands true even when she uncovers her real identity.

While Horizon Zero Dawn is only her debut game, Aloy deserves to be remembered and celebrated.
