Unlike Sony, who has a whole host of flag-bearers for their video game marketing, Microsoft only really has one.
Halo is the undisputed posterchild of XBOX, and its success is so closely linked to the success of the console it resides on. The XBOX Series X is counting on Halo Infinite to sell both the system and subscriptions to Game Pass but, as fans know, we live in a time where Halo has the potential to disappoint.
Bungie's original trilogy is perhaps one of the finest first-person shooters in gaming history. Conversely, 343's maiden attempt at handling the series was rocky to say the least, as fans rushed to the store in record numbers only to be left somewhat underwhelmed.
Halo 4's environments were murky, its story was convoluted and the characters lacked consistency. It was a great game, sure, but an underwhelming entry in the Halo series.
The truth is that Halo 2 and 3 is where many of us began our journey with Master Chief. Nostalgia plays a huge part in our love for the titles, and while Halo 4 does fall short of the heights that each hit, it was a disappointment because it wasn't Halo 3 again.
