Anyone who paid any attention to the online reception of the recent God of War: Ascension will be well aware that the game was widely lambasted for its "extremely difficult" section at the tail-end of the game called The Trial of Archimedes. It's a roughly 10-minute fight sequence that has you take down three waves of enemies without a save or a checkpoint in between, and you don't get any health or magic crates to help you out along the way. Basically, this section requires you to be extremely resourceful with dodging and attacks, or you're going to get destroyed. Speaking as someone who beat the Trial on my first go, I had good fun ripping the lesser players to shreds who dismissed the game as having unfair AI and basically forcing the player into conditions that would ensure their defeat. This simply isn't true; I'm hardly the best God of War player out there, but I made it through with 70% of my health in tact by simply dodging and timing my attacks correctly. That I saw people whinging about taking three hours to make it through the trial did nothing but make me respect them less as gamers. This wasn't the game's fault - players (many of whom I suspect this was their first time playing God of War) simply weren't good enough.
