There's something of an assumption among many "hardcore" gamers that if you buy Call of Duty, you're an intellectually deficient douchebag who just wants to get some quick thrills online and little more. I consider myself a seasoned gamer; I frequent the indie game markets online constantly on the lookout for a fresh, new title, but at the same time, I enjoy the simple, efficient thrill that the Call of Duty games give me. Granted, I haven't touched Black Ops II since last Christmas, but I more than got my money's worth out of it, and resent anyone who would look down on me (or others) for playing it. The problem is that, like with movies, people like to box others into corners; if you watch Transformers and enjoy it, you're a vapid cinemagoer contributing to "the problem", and much of the same can be said about CoD. Are all of the CoD games fantastically original works of art? Absolutely not, but I view them as video game junk food; technically proficient, visceral junk food that delivers exactly what I want (most of the time). I also happen to enjoy the works of Team Ico and thatgamecompany, as do many. It's this reductive, closed-off mindset, that people are one or the other, that really does us all a disservice.
