From the name, through the gameplay, then onto the art style, MUSHA gives off a powerful aura of being a game aimed at the Japanese market. MUSHA is a no-nonsense shmup - a speedy top-down shooter in which you fly a mechanised one-soldier army through futuristic environments, taking out wave upon wave of enemy craft and bizarre bosses. The game looks fantastic, with dark, atmospheric environments and chaotic, busy gunplay. It was widely regarded as one of the finestshooters on the Mega Drive, and among the finest releases from prolific shmup developer Compile. If you want to experience the frenetic action unique to this type of shooter, then MUSHA is a great place to start. But doing it on the Mega Drive won't be easy. Shmups were always most successful in Japan, and despite receiving critical acclaim and a US release, MUSHA never really caught on in the west. A US copy of the game is now hard to obtain, and has been steadily rising in value. Today, the game costs around $100 on eBay.
