9. Lower Decks: Starbase 80

The dreaded Starbase 80 might be a rusty deathtrap, but it would make for a fabulous roleplay adventure. Imagine an RPG that looks, feels and sounds like Lower Decks, packed full of humour, heart and nostalgia.

You'd start as Ensign Hapless, sent to the base after a less-than-promising start to your career. Perhaps you could even choose the ridiculous incident in your past, which would grant you a suitably useless special ability. After spending at least an hour perfecting the look of your intrepid mediocre hero in the character builder, you'd finally set out in search of redemption and glory.

Every character along the way would come with a colourful dialogue wheel, questionable advice and a list of silly side quests that send you traipsing to every dilapidated corner of the starbase. And there'd be plenty to keep you busy: fixing decrepit systems, rescuing accident-prone crewmembers, thwarting a gang of space-slugs that live in the tubes, all while trying your best to avoid Sickbay after coming into contact with some kind of exotic goo. And that's without the inevitable Lower Decks style catastrophe that's bound to befall the cursed crew.

Whether Starbase 80 took the form of a visual novel, point-and-click adventure or a third-person RPG, Lower Decks is crying out for a creative and quirky spin-off game that's equal parts fun, comfort and chaos.
