10 Star Trek Games Paramount Should Develop

8. Section 31: Dark Matter

The concept of Section 31 can be somewhat divisive for fans. But so long as it's around, we might as well get a super slick, atmospheric spy game out of it. There are a couple of directions a Section 31 game could take, both equally compelling.

The first would be a more cinematic experience, something along the lines of the Connor sections in Detroit: Become Human (arguably the best part of the game), where the player's decisions and approach determine the outcome of the story.

Missions would be based around infiltrating facilities or tracking targets, perhaps even using established Star Trek technology to alter facial features and maintain a disguise. When things go wrong, or a confrontation is unavoidable, quick time events could integrate high-energy action scenes directly into the gameplay, making for a fully immersive experience.

The other option would be a Splinter Cell or Assassin's Creed dynamic...not the assassination part, of course, but the hardcore stealth mechanics. While you try not to hold your breath through an entire level, your Section 31 agent would diligently work through a list of tasks, utilising Starfleet intelligence gadgets and non-lethal takedowns to remain undetected.

And let's face it, between the Romulans, Cardassians, Klingons, Orions, Breen and even the Venari Ral, the political landscape of Star Trek would be perfect for just about any kind of spy story. Whichever route they went, Section 31 would make for a truly gripping game. With one caveat: it keeps the ethos of Star Trek. Less literal cloak and dagger, more tactical cloak and tricorder.
