9. The Controls Are Frequently Annoying

As imaginative and ingeniously assembled as most of the game is, it's pretty shocking how irritating it can be simply to traverse this sprawling world.

In attempting to convey the weight and heft of Arthur's movements, even just walking around and interacting with basic objects can feel like awkward busy-work.

The finicky nature of the game's controls and movement physics mean that even the simple act of opening a cabinet can require the game to work through a series of competing animations if any other interactive objects are nearby.

It's frustratingly reminiscent of Shenmue's painfully unintuitive control and locomotion mechanics, and is certainly one aspect of the game that would've benefited from a more streamlined, even arcade-like approach.
