7. When Adding Playable Female Characters Was "Too Much Work"

Although it's starting to recover now, for a time, Assassin's Creed was shrouded in controversy to the point where the devs seemingly couldn't do anything right. Granted, it didn't help that they always responded to controversy in the most eye-rolling manner possible.

For instance, when the studio took flack for removing playable female Assassins in Unity's multiplayer - despite featuring the option in previous titles - the excuse they gave couldn't have come across as less genuine.

Responding to the backlash, Ubisoft released a statement indicating that they were mere "inches away" from including the option, and later said that it was far too intensive on their workload to add in the ability to change the gender of your character.
