With the popularity of online play increasing it has become a major role in video games today. The only problem is that some games concentrate mainly on online play which pulls away the time, energy, and focus from the main story. The single player experience often gets forgotten. Games like Battlefield 3 have massive multiplayer experiences but terrible and forgettable campaigns.

If this trend continues games may come out with only multiplayer. Multiplayer is not a bad thing if anything it extends the game and ads re-playability. The balance however must be changed. If a game publisher spends a large amount of time on multiplayer they should spend just as much on the single player experience. Most gamers are not opposed to single player campaigns and when paired with good multiplayer can make a great game.
