10 Video Games Whose BEST Versions Are On Switch

If you thought the Switch focuses on convenience over power, think again.

The Switch is the fastest selling console in the history of Nintendo. It sold more units in under a year than the Wii U did in its entire run! (That's simultaneously impressive and embarrassing). The biggest selling point for the Japanese company's latest console is that it's portable. The fact that the Switch isn't limited to the player's television gave it a massive advantage over its competitors.

To compensate for this neat feature, the Switch isn't as powerful as the Xbox One or the Playstation 4. Some Switch ports suffer from a noticeable dropped frame rate, especially when the screen is filled to the brim with content.

But this isn't always the case. There are some games like Dark Souls: Remastered or Doom Eternal that are so gargantuan, you'd assume they would be unplayable on the Switch. But not only do some games work seamlessly, they actually play better than most ports.

Whether it's because the game feels accustomed to the Joy-Cons or it's jam-packed with Switch-specific additional exclusive content, it's clear that some of the best ports can be found on the Nintendo Switch.

10. Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

Even though Shovel Knight was pretty short, the award-winning retro platformer captured the hearts of gamers. With the audience craving more content, Yacht Club Games released expansions for the spade-swinging side-scroller including Plague of Shadows, Spectre of Torment, and King of Cards. And these campaigns don't just consist of an extra stage or two. Some of them are so full of content, you could classify them as separate games.

As Shovel Knight was ported onto every console under the Sun, it was only a matter of time before it found its way onto the Switch. Because of the popularity of the game, Nintendo could have just ported the original Shovel Knight and called it a day.

Instead, Nintendo's version was released as Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. The subtitle was apt since this port included the original game as well as all the additional campaigns. It also has amiibo functionality, which offers new features including bonus stages and unlocking a co-op multiplayer.

Even if you have played every version, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is absolutely worth a revisit due to convenient portability of the Switch and the exclusive content.
