5. Dragon Quest: Builders
One of the cutest and most instantly loveable games I've played in quite some time, Dragon Quest: Builders takes Akira Toriyama's legendary art style and marries it to Square Enix Holding's perfected gameplay for a formula that easily trumps Minecraft at its own game.
By integrating an actual story, quest system and characters to the whole "Build what you like" setup, Holdings were able to give the formula a much-needed injection of purpose that Mojang's 'box of Lego' approach just didn't have.
Granted, you're forever free to construct all manner of building designs or go off to fight monsters and chase the horizon, but whenever you're ready, Dragon Quest Builders is always waiting with a guiding hand to take you on a truly memorable journey.
