Back in the days before first-person shooters started taking themselves oh-so-seriously and sticking exclusively to the arena of modern conflict, there was this gem of a series called TimeSplitters for the PS2, made by several members of the team who worked for Rare on Goldeneye. TimeSplitters was irreverent, comical and absurd, packed with a colourful array of game modes, characters and maps. It was the pinnacle of split-screen shooters, and we haven't seen anything quite like it since. Of its eclectic multiplayer maps across the three games, the greatest is hands-down the Ice Station of TimeSplitters 2. The map consists of a large, snowy asteroid with a big base in the middle and four smaller buildings in each of the four corners. There is also a metal platform hanging out into space (great for last stands or sniping), and a network of underground tunnels for some tense bottlenecked combat. The map works brilliantly with each game mode, but for the ultimate experience play it on Capture the Bag or the nail-biting Virus mode.
