5. "The Darkness Of Eternity" - Final Fantasy IX's Kuja Battle Theme
Not quite a final boss theme, this one is truly iconic. Truly a fusion of everything a Final Fantasy boss theme should be, this one manages to be catchy yet menacing; sadistic yet serene at the same time. From the selection of deject organs to a drum solo that could rival Queen's "We Will Rock You" to the break-beat brilliance of the synthesizers and the breakdown in the middle to a teasing piano score, this track takes a hold of you and refuses to let go; each and every change in pace and rhythm only serving to add to the intensity and bring the battle (and game) to it's most potent catharsis. A surprise around every corner and a trick up it's every sleeve, this is the battle theme that just keeps on giving.
