Let's kick things off with a video game movie that's due out very soon: a Dwayne Johnson-starring adaptation of the hit Midway video game franchise Rampage.

Transforming the classic arcade game - in which players assume the role of a giant monster hell-bent on destruction - into a CGI-slathered blockbuster makes a ton of sense, and throwing the biggest movie star on the planet into the mix sure won't hurt either.

The marketing suggests that Rampage is going to be a knowingly dumb, refreshingly self-aware B-movie that makes the most of its absurd premise, and will hopefully culminate with The Rock himself being transformed into a giant. If that happens, this is instantly the best video game movie ever.

It's got rock solid filmmaker Brad Peyton (San Andreas) at the helm, and being a more niche property than most video game movies to date, it shouldn't be weighed down by quite the same stigma or enormity of fan expectation.

Don't be surprised if this one pulls a Jumanji and is one of the summer's big surprise hits.
