13 Gaming Heroes Who Sucked Next To Their Own Sidekicks

7. Mario (Mario Bros. Series)

Originally beginning life as a palette swap for Mario, Luigi has stepped out from his brother's shadow dramatically. The taller and more athletic of the two, Luigi tends to be more cowardly (and funnier) than Mario, and that allows him to be involved in a better variety of games, rather than always saving a certain Princess. Luigi's Mansion for example, provides a great contrast to the bright colours of Mario's Mushroom Kingdom with a dark, haunted mansion providing the setting for the game. Luigi also gets to play the role of the bad guy in Super Paper Mario as the brainwashed Mr. L; complete with black costume and eyemask making him unrecognisable to most of the Mushroom Kingdom. Another great advantage that Luigi has over Mario is his jumping ability; he tends to be able to reach greater heights than Mario. He can also flutter in several games by kicking his legs rapidly after jumping, allowing him to cross bigger jumps than his portly brother. Luigi took his time to become his own man but having finally grown independent of Mario, he's starting to become the more entertaining sibling.
