As an open-world stealth game, the original Assassin's Creed's promise was incomplete. So, to marginalize it as a glorified tech demo, like so many critics have, wouldn't exactly be considered unfair. At the time, the French art of free-running, known as Parkour, had found its legs in acrobatic action films like District 13 and Youtube's limitless supply of homemade stunt videos, but video games had sparked little such inspiration.
