15 'Always Online' Games That You Can't Play Anymore

5. LawBreakers

LawBreakers was Cliffy B's big swing and a miss after he played an integral role in bringing the world the innovative and iconic Gears of War series. After leaving Epic Games, all eyes were on whatever Cliff Belszinksi was cooking up next with his new studio, Boss Key Productions. It turned out that what they were cooking up was an uninspired hero shooter that wasn't bringing anything new to the table.

LawBreakers wasn't a bad game by any means; it just didn't do anything that set it apart from the crowd. It received pretty decent reviews when it launched in 2017, but by this point, we were already inundated with hero shooters that we just didn't want another. Once you get attached to one hero shooter and spend your hard-earned cash on cosmetics, it's hard to then jump ship to something new without good reason. And LawBreakers just didn't give people a good enough reason.

Bleszinski himself attributes the commercial failure of LawBreakers to being completely overshadowed by Overwatch. Suffering the same fate as Battleborn, Boss Key Productions simply weren't able to compete with the money that Blizzard was shovelling into Overwatch. Because of this, LawBreakers was shut down a year later in 2018, with the game failing to find its audience.
