15 Batman Arkham Series Elements That Would Make Future Films Great

2. Joker Takes Over The Asylum

Arkham Asylum succeeded because of a wide variety of reasons - its free-flow combat system was innovative and slick, its stealth options were tense and strategic, whilst its story was nothing short of sublime.

The key focus of said story was Batman's most iconic villain, the Joker, who allows himself to be captured and taken to Arkham Asylum only to spring a trap, taking over the facility. Trapped within its confines amongst a number of dangerous individuals that he helped to put there, the Dark Knight is first tasked with ensuring both his own safety and the safety of surviving staff from the likes of deranged serial killer Victor Zsasz, before investigating the Joker's motives and trying to put a stop to them.

These investigations lead to the discovery that the Joker is seeking a formula named Titan, pioneered by one of the asylum's medical staff and based on the Venom substance consumed by Bane, who is one of the many opponents that Batman must square off against before he can go one-on-one with Joker and put a stop to his scheme.

Batman and the Joker always play off against each other so well, regardless of the medium. The asylum is the perfect setting for a battle, both physical and psychological, between the pair, given how keen Joker is to stress that it is where both of them belong.

Quite a lot would have to be altered to keep a film adaptation realistic, but Arkham Asylum (in tandem with the A Serious House On Serious Earth comic that served as a inspiration) is one of the greatest Batman stories of the modern era and deserves to be showcased to an even wider audience at some point.
