15 Batman Arkham Series Elements That Would Make Future Films Great
15. Blackgate Uprising
Blackgate Prison is as notorious as Arkham Asylum in the Batman mythos for how frequently it plays hosts to riots and escapes. Indeed, Arkham Origins begins with a jailbreak led by Black Mask, while the Joker's plot in Arkham Asylum is made possible by a fire at the facility that results in the temporary relocation of his thugs.
The prison made for an interesting setting in Arkham Origins: Blackgate, a 3DS/Vita spin-off game that sees the Joker, the Penguin and Black Mask each carve territories for themselves within its walls following an explosion. Batman naturally has to subdue all three to rescue supposed hostages, as Catwoman infiltrates the facility in an attempt to break out Bane. Though the Dark Knight thwarts her plot, more interesting is the revelation of the identity of her employer - Amanda Waller, who previously appeared in Origins' post-credits scene attempting to recruit Deathstroke to the Suicide Squad.
Waller and the Suicide Squad also appear in Batman: Assault On Arkham, an animated film within the Arkham continuity where the team break into Arkham Asylum to retrieve a thumbdrive from the Riddler, though they fail through a combination of infighting, multiple deaths, Batman's infiltration of their ranks and the Joker's entry into proceedings.
An uprising within the narrow walls of Blackgate would suit a film well, whilst the involvement of Amanda Waller behind the scenes could be the catalyst to interlink Batman and the Suicide Squad, who will begin life in the DC Cinematic Universe as the subjects of different films, together further.
