2. The Train Battle (Among Thieves)

Although the armoured car chase is probably more exhilarating and technically more impressive than Uncharted 2's train shoot-out, there's no doubt that the latter established just about all the techniques and ideas that made the former possible in the first place.

For the first time in a game you weren't just shooting through a train that was "moving" thanks to a series of repeated subway sections or around a loop, but genuinely fighting on-board a moving vehicle as it chugged through a huge environment, all the while dealing with constant changes of scenery and gameplay set-ups.

However, not only was it technically impressive at the time, but the variation in combat requirements and enemy types kept the gameplay as interesting as the technology that was powering it.

While the helicopter chase previously in the game set a bar for the franchise going forward, this sequence completely smashed it and acted as the benchmark action scene for an entire generation to come.
