VR coverage just doesn't do numbers on most websites, hence even when there's a huge peripheral-defining title out there, you likely won't hear about it. Even the heart-palpitating Half-Life Alyx was watched by hundreds of thousands more people on Twitch, than those who had the gear to experience it themselves.

Case in point, then: The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.

Coming from Skybound Entertainment, this is a really surprising "Dying Light-meets-Deus Ex" kinda vibe, and combat is unbelievably good.

Putting you square in the middle of encounters by letting you literally grab a zombie's head with one hand and stab with whatever else you've picked up, there's an experimental feel to encounters that's scrappy and earned when you emerge on the other side.

Getting the axe after so many close calls feels like a godsend. The game has you clutch it with both hands, letting you practice on some tied up zombies, before setting you loose.

That first confident swing you make against your next proper enemy takes their head off in one satisfying cleave. It's a small moment in a game chock-full of recommendations, but one that always leaves everybody smiling.
