15 Good Reasons To Love Modern Gaming

9. Good Franchise Adaptations

Video games based on our favorite movies and comic books have long had a reputation for being terrible. This was especially true back in 80€™s and early 90€™s, where every popular franchise got a poorly conceived and rushed video game adaption, with E.T. being the most infamous example, a game so horrible it was unplayable. This was a time when brand names were slapped on games to make a cheap buck, with more time dedicated to the artwork on the box than the actual game. If you were a kid in the 90€™s and saw a game based on a cartoon or movie you loved, your heart would be broken when you discovered how crappy it was. While rushed adaptations still exist, it most certainly isn€™t as bad as it initially was. Now, many properties are getting great video game adaptations made by those with a passion for it. Batman is probably the best example. In the 90€™s, every game based on the license was mediocre at best, but now we€™ve got the Arkham Asylum games, games which capture the essence of Batman perfectly and make you feel like you are the Dark Knight. If you are a Transformers fan, you€™ve for the War for Cybertron games from High Moon Studios. Telltale€™s The Walking Dead is a great game based on the comics of the same name. Fans of the Alien series got Gearbox€™s Aliens: Colonial Marines to look forward to. Sure, direct movie tie ins still usually suck the big one, but when original games are made based on popular franchises, the results have been quite good, and is one reason why gaming is better now than ever.
